You Think You’re Getting Rid of ME?

Disclaimer: I am not in any way promoting divorce. My husband is stuck with me forever. I mean, literally. He better put up his feet, because he’s got quite a while to go here. Three years down, a million more to go. And if you asked him, he’d tell you that the past three years have seemed like a million. In a good way of course.

While I typically get gracious compliments from my husband about my craft projects, he thought that this one was a little questionable. I think he just wanted to make sure I didn’t plan on leaving him anytime soon. I mean, who would cook his dinners if I did? But I assured him the project was just because I recently had a co-worker start the process of the big D. And by big D, I mean divorce. If your mind went somewhere else, we could probably be friends.

I never like to see anyone going through a hard time. And while my particular co-worker was the instigator in this life change, it’s still not an easy thing to go through. I could have made her another sunshine basket, but most of my friends are pretty sick of those at this point. So on to something bigger and brighter. I put together a Divorce Basket for her. Anything to brighten spirits over here. And note to self: When “brightening spirits” be sure to use lots of actual spirits. You know the kind. They’re served in bars and restaurants.

While my co-worker might be saying goodbye to one person in her life, she’s definitely gonna have to keep me. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Un-Happy Valentine’s Day!

Let’s face it, we’ve all been there. Heartbroken on Valentine’s Day, filling our faces with boxes of chocolates and bottles of wine, while watching horrible chick flicks and filling the trash can with tissues. It’s not fun, it’s not romantic, it just plain sucks. So if you’re lucky enough to not be one of these people this year, pat yourself on the back and then promptly make your less fortunate friends some Un-Happy Valentine’s Day gifts. Pairs well with a bottle (or bottles) of wine.

If you’re a really good friend you should probably also help said friend drink said bottle (or bottles) of wine. Hell, you might even bring over the chocolate, the wine, and the chick flick. Every friend needs a good shoulder to cry on every once in a while right? Maybe you should bring the box of tissues as well…just in case.

Making Your Own Sparkly Clothespins

If you were to ask me, I would tell you there is no such thing as too much glitter. Not in your craft projects, your dining room table, or your hair. I cannot be the only person who’d love to swim in a pool of glitter. Nevermind that you wouldn’t be glitter-free for years. You’d be finding it up in your ears, up your nose, and in unmentionable places for months. Which doesn’t sound like the worst thing to me. Maybe I need to start going to Glitter Addicts Anonymous.

For my wedding, we used glitter clothespins to hold up the placecards. They were gorgeous, but definitely more expensive than DIY would have been. I don’t know why I didn’t think about it at the time (probably didn’t have extra time to make 200), but I should have just made them on my own. Pretty and personal. Win/Win.

For this weekend’s project I grabbed some smaller packets of glitter at the dollar store, a pack of clothespins, and used Mod Podge to adhere the glitter. I sprayed some of my pins white first (the color possibilities are endless), and made a bunch of colorful pins. Now the only question is what to do with them?

I just cannot get enough of how pretty this glitter is. I wish I could cover everything in glitter. Maybe I can talk some bride-to-be into letting me make all of her place-settings glittery? Anyone taking numbers?

Dollar Store Valentine Coasters

Another day, another dollar (store project). I hadn’t intended to bring you another dollar store project so soon, but something shocking happened. I was scheduled to babysit this weekend for some school-age children. Because I never show up empty-handed I brought all my crafting supplies along with me, only to find out that they didn’t want to craft with me! GASP! It was life-changing. This just doesn’t happen to me! I was all sorts of out of whack. I was going to have to rely on a super-fun personality? I mean, come on, that can’t compare with my crafts now can it?

Contrary to my beliefs, apparently I am super-fun. To give myself some credit, the children woke up the next day and asked if I could come back every day. So there’s that. I’ll take what I can get. Even if it’s only three and five year olds who want to hang out with me. At least it’s not just my husband and my cat.

To get back on track, I had purchased this pack of glitter foam hearts from the Dollar Tree to make a project with the kiddos. I didn’t know what else to do with them, so I made some fun coasters for Valentine’s Day. Just glued three together (they’re thin), and covered each side in Mod Podge (mandatory unless you want your house covered in glitter – trust me, it never goes away at my place).
