That’s a Wrap!

10.28.2014

Mummy Hershey Halloween FavorsThat’s a wrap ladies and gentlemen! My Halloween favors are all set to leave the nest. It’ll be tough, but I think I can let them go. They are still so little and inexperienced, I hope they survive the flight.

I’m not stingy when it comes to giving out candy, but thirty full-sized candy bars would just be a little ridiculous. If I worked in an office with a handful of people, that would be within my budget. And lez be honest (a little Pitch Perfect humor for you), with this many favors to make, I’d go broke. I am playing the lottery, but I’m just not doing well. Until I win, they’re stuck with the fun-size favors.

(Side Note: If you haven’t seen Pitch Perfect yet, you’re really missing out)Mummy Hershey Bars IngredientsI’ve made these Mummy favors for a Halloween party before, so I figured what the heck? I can make mini-mummies. Besides, good things come in small packages. I should try telling our 24 pound cat Lucy that. Maybe she’d be more motivated to get on the treadmill. Or the stairs. Or even just get off the bed.

Grab a bag of Hershey fun size treats, a roll of white crepe paper, and a pack of mini “wiggly eyes.” This should cost you about $7. Not bad. And that’s without coupons.Create Your Mummy Hershey Bar Halloween TreatsDirections:

1) Cut crepe paper in three strips vertically (about 18in give or take)

2) Cut 1×1 black squares out of construction paper (give or take)

3) Hot glue two eyes to each piece of paper

4) Glue the paper/eyes to one end of the Hershey bar

5) Use hot glue to adhere one end of tissue strip to the bottom of the bar

6) Wrap up around, and then back down around

You’ll end up with Manny the Mummy:Mummy Hershey Halloween TreatsI made my whole pack, and then decided I wanted to add a little tag to each. I designed the “That’s a Wrap” Halloween tag and then decided not to use it. I couldn’t find a cute way to attach it, so I nixed the idea. I’d love to hear your ideas!Mummy Hershey Halloween TreatsMy sweet mini’s are all bundled up and ready to be delivered on Friday! What are you handing out?

You bring the wine, I’ll provide the crafts. This weekend: Halloween costumes? To be provocative or to not be provocative…that is the question.

Hot take: We’ve convinced ourselves kids need bigg Hot take: We’ve convinced ourselves kids need bigger backyards, when what they really need is neighborhood kids.

I used to think about more square footage, more land, more privacy. Now? I’d rather my girls have friends they can run to than an acre they have to play on alone.

A bigger house isn’t always a better childhood. For us, built-in community has been worth more than an extra bedroom ever could be.

I know this won’t be everyone’s opinion, but I think for elementary-aged kids, having friends next door is more valuable than having a huge yard. Anyone else change their mind about what “dream home” actually means?

I’ll die on this hill: kids birthday parties SHOUL I’ll die on this hill: kids birthday parties SHOULD feel magical.

Before anyone comes at me, I’m not talking about spending thousands of dollars. I’m talking about picking a theme, hanging the decorations, baking the cake (or buying it and decorating at home), planning the games, and making your kid feel like the most important person in the world for one day.

That’s the stuff they’ll remember.

You don’t need a huge budget to make childhood feel special. Agree or disagree?
Even with the bathroom trips. 🤣 Listen. Social me Even with the bathroom trips. 🤣

Listen. Social media tends to make traveling with children look glamorous, and the truth is, it usually isn’t. Are some kids professional travelers? Of course. But reality is that there’s always pitfalls and unexpected turbulence that you just have to mentally prepare for before you travel. And in the end? I promise you, it’s worth all the hassle.

One of my favorite things we get to give our girls One of my favorite things we get to give our girls is perspective. To see new places. To meet different people. To experience cultures outside of their own.

Not so they grow up thinking one place is “better” than another — but so they grow up curious, grateful, and grounded. And the more of the world we see, the more thankful I become for home, for the freedoms we have, and for the life we get to build together.

I might be the world’s worst “influencer,” because I might be the world’s worst “influencer,” because I’m here to tell you this: you do not need a whole new wardrobe for vacation.

Social media makes it feel like every trip requires new outfits, a new summer closet, a new date-night dress…but honestly? It doesn’t.

I’m willing to bet you already have plenty of great options hanging in your closet. And instead of spending a bunch of money on clothes you’ll probably only wear once, maybe it’s enough to just wear what you already love.
One day, instead of hearing little feet running th One day, instead of hearing little feet running through the house all day, I’ll be leaving voicemails hoping they call me back when they have time.

The sticky fingerprints will wash away, the car seats will come out, bedtime routines will end, and the house that once felt so loud will get quieter little by little.

It’s strange how the things that exhaust you in the moment become the very things you ache for later. 🤍
When did it become expected to spend hundreds of d When did it become expected to spend hundreds of dollars on Teacher Appreciation gifts? Don’t get me wrong, if it were in the budget you better believe it’s worth it. I am not advocating for giving them LESS, I’m just advocating for staying within your families budget. And maybe if we see more of these easy little inexpensive gifts, we can make it more acceptable to gift within budget. Because that’s what it’s all about.

What’s that saying? It’s the thought that counts.
