121 Birthdays

1.22.2015

Easy DIY Birthday CardA few years ago I made a point to try to send out birthday cards to every family member, close friend, and even some random people. Like the President, Taylor Swift, Mickey Mouse, and Phil Mickelson. Oh wait…those were wedding invitations. Want to guess which two responded?

I have officially done a great job (if I do say so myself) of sending out cards to everyone. Or at least to all the birthday’s I’m aware of (thank you Facebook!). Cards can break the bank when you have 121 to buy. And yes, I totally counted. Either I hit up the Dollar Tree for 2/$1 cards, or I attempt to create something a little more personal. Who gets which card has nothing to do with how much I love them. Nothing at all. I suppose they know they’re really special when they get a gift too. If it’s handmade, extra point for them.

(Really my main goal is just to be overwhelmed with birthday cards on my own birthday. So far, this hasn’t happened. Each year I lose a little more hope.)

I found this card online (with a free printable and instructions) and I LOVE it. How fun is it? Visit Oh Happy Day in the link above for the instructions. Plus, she has cute little videos that look much more magical than my photo. I just couldn’t do it justice.

I’m betting Taylor Swift and Mickey Mouse (you *must* let me know!)…….[though, perhaps, it was the President, actually, as votes are so precious these days?!]……love your post (send me your address, and your birthday, I’ll totally send you a handmade card for your birthday – I *love* making cards!)…….[sorry, haven’t been checking in as I’ve been in some sort of awful funk….am coming out of it so will be back with a vengeance ;)]

Yes!!! It was Mickey Mouse and the President!! I was wishing for T Swift, I totally thought I had a chance there. I had read before the wedding that if you send an invitation to the White House and to Disneyland, that both will send you a card, so I thought I’d see if it works! And I would LOVE a homemade card for my birthday! My friends typically steer clear of homemade cards for me! Haha.

Hah! I knew it! But Taylor let me down…..(LOL!)….send me your address/birthday, honey, and a card will wing it’s way to you 😉

Even with the bathroom trips. 🤣 Listen. Social me Even with the bathroom trips. 🤣

Listen. Social media tends to make traveling with children look glamorous, and the truth is, it usually isn’t. Are some kids professional travelers? Of course. But reality is that there’s always pitfalls and unexpected turbulence that you just have to mentally prepare for before you travel. And in the end? I promise you, it’s worth all the hassle.

Why yes, I do. 🤣🤣🤣

One of my favorite things we get to give our girls One of my favorite things we get to give our girls is perspective. To see new places. To meet different people. To experience cultures outside of their own.

Not so they grow up thinking one place is “better” than another — but so they grow up curious, grateful, and grounded. And the more of the world we see, the more thankful I become for home, for the freedoms we have, and for the life we get to build together.

I might be the world’s worst “influencer,” because I might be the world’s worst “influencer,” because I’m here to tell you this: you do not need a whole new wardrobe for vacation.

Social media makes it feel like every trip requires new outfits, a new summer closet, a new date-night dress…but honestly? It doesn’t.

I’m willing to bet you already have plenty of great options hanging in your closet. And instead of spending a bunch of money on clothes you’ll probably only wear once, maybe it’s enough to just wear what you already love.
One day, instead of hearing little feet running th One day, instead of hearing little feet running through the house all day, I’ll be leaving voicemails hoping they call me back when they have time.

The sticky fingerprints will wash away, the car seats will come out, bedtime routines will end, and the house that once felt so loud will get quieter little by little.

It’s strange how the things that exhaust you in the moment become the very things you ache for later. 🤍
When did it become expected to spend hundreds of d When did it become expected to spend hundreds of dollars on Teacher Appreciation gifts? Don’t get me wrong, if it were in the budget you better believe it’s worth it. I am not advocating for giving them LESS, I’m just advocating for staying within your families budget. And maybe if we see more of these easy little inexpensive gifts, we can make it more acceptable to gift within budget. Because that’s what it’s all about.

What’s that saying? It’s the thought that counts.
I’ve been seeing so many reels lately saying that I’ve been seeing so many reels lately saying that Mother’s Day is only for moms with small children. I couldn’t disagree more. To me, Mother’s Day is not just about me. It’s about the women who helped shape me, as a mother, a woman, a friend. It’s about my friends who help me be a better mother, even if they don’t have little kids themselves. It’s about my own mother, who is the biggest inspiration for me, to be a better mother myself. It’s about the many generations before me that allowed me to be a mother at all. It’s about every woman in my life that loves me and my girls as if they’re their own. That’s who I’ll be celebrating this Mother’s Day.

What are your kids always finding for you?
