DIY Chalkboard Sign

DIY Chalkboard Sign Dollar Store Products

Happy Birthday to ME! I’m turning the big 3-1 today, and I’m really excited about it. While it isn’t a monumental birthday year, it’s still another year on this glorious planet (okay, so semi-glorious – if I was on a beach sipping a cocktail, it would be much more glorious). In real life, I will be on a beach in a few short weeks, so I won’t complain (too much).

After I hand out all my birthday blessing bags (see this post from last year), I will have a cheeseburger on a patio somewhere, while drinking a beer, and thanking God for another wonderful year. While you may not appreciate birthdays as much as I do, the alternative is pretty grim. So try to take a second to appreciate that you have been blessed with another year on Earth, and do something crazy. After all, you only get one life. And because I only get one year to be 31, I’m going to make it great. I’ll start with a trip to Mexico in a few short weeks. Tacos and tequila here I come!

DIY Chalkboard Sign // Steps

For those of you that don’t want to spend your dinero on a trip to Mexico, you can start with making a simple chalkboard sign to bring in your birthday. Or your friend’s birthday, or your cat’s birthday, or even your stuffed animal’s; I don’t judge. Start with the dollar store, and a pizza pan. Use chalkboard paint of any kind to spray and cover the whole pan (about 3 coats). And you’re done.

The only thing missing is the “chalkboard writing” class that someone should offer. Clearly my handwriting is horrible. But since it’s my birthday, you’ll give me a pass right?

    Happy Birthday!

I love chalkboard paint! Well, I’ve never actually used it, but I love the idea! I wish it were around when I was little. I probably would have made my parents paint all of the walls with it.

    Happy Birthday Ms. Shauna Rae!
I’m glad you believe in celebrating your own self and what cute little ‘gift’ you shared with us today. Looking forward to seeing/reading about Mexico as well and I’m sure there will be fun photos to peruse as well.

Only 31, your still young and beautiful! It’s been funny reminding myself I just turned 51, sometimes it just feels easy to say 50, 55, 60… etc. (silly OLD moment there). LOL

But Happy Birthday again and have a great weekend.

Happy belated birthday! :]! I haven’t used chalkboard paint yet, but have been meaning to (once I’m done moving around and can actually decorate, it’s gonna happen! :O )!

I love the idea, Shauna. I coach in youth baseball (under 12) and this would be a great idea for the dugouts to keep the batting order posted. I appreciate the tip. Have a wonderful birthday. Each one is worthy of a celebration and your planned trip sounds like a perfect way to celebrate it.

Wow!!! That’s a REALLY great idea! You could even do a larger rectangle pizza pan! And thanks for the wishes, my birthday was fabulous! Now only about 360 days until my next one! 🙂

A core memory I didn’t know I’d be making… This w A core memory I didn’t know I’d be making…

This weekend at church, my daughter got to light the candles for the first time. At the end of the service, when she went up on her own to extinguish them, proud tears dropped from my eyes. And as I looked around at others, I noticed I wasn’t the only one.

If you had asked me in my early to mid twenties, I wouldn’t have imagined how much this community, this faith, and these little traditions would come to mean to our family. There was a season of my life, long before I became a mom, where I drifted away from actively going to church. Now, getting to watch my girls grow up surrounded by faith, love, and a church family who knows them and celebrates them feels like such a gift.
Hot take: We’ve convinced ourselves kids need bigg Hot take: We’ve convinced ourselves kids need bigger backyards, when what they really need is neighborhood kids.

I used to think about more square footage, more land, more privacy. Now? I’d rather my girls have friends they can run to than an acre they have to play on alone.

A bigger house isn’t always a better childhood. For us, built-in community has been worth more than an extra bedroom ever could be.

I know this won’t be everyone’s opinion, but I think for elementary-aged kids, having friends next door is more valuable than having a huge yard. Anyone else change their mind about what “dream home” actually means?

I’ll die on this hill: kids birthday parties SHOUL I’ll die on this hill: kids birthday parties SHOULD feel magical.

Before anyone comes at me, I’m not talking about spending thousands of dollars. I’m talking about picking a theme, hanging the decorations, baking the cake (or buying it and decorating at home), planning the games, and making your kid feel like the most important person in the world for one day.

That’s the stuff they’ll remember.

You don’t need a huge budget to make childhood feel special. Agree or disagree?
Even with the bathroom trips. 🤣 Listen. Social me Even with the bathroom trips. 🤣

Listen. Social media tends to make traveling with children look glamorous, and the truth is, it usually isn’t. Are some kids professional travelers? Of course. But reality is that there’s always pitfalls and unexpected turbulence that you just have to mentally prepare for before you travel. And in the end? I promise you, it’s worth all the hassle.

Why yes, I do. 🤣🤣🤣

One of my favorite things we get to give our girls One of my favorite things we get to give our girls is perspective. To see new places. To meet different people. To experience cultures outside of their own.

Not so they grow up thinking one place is “better” than another — but so they grow up curious, grateful, and grounded. And the more of the world we see, the more thankful I become for home, for the freedoms we have, and for the life we get to build together.

I might be the world’s worst “influencer,” because I might be the world’s worst “influencer,” because I’m here to tell you this: you do not need a whole new wardrobe for vacation.

Social media makes it feel like every trip requires new outfits, a new summer closet, a new date-night dress…but honestly? It doesn’t.

I’m willing to bet you already have plenty of great options hanging in your closet. And instead of spending a bunch of money on clothes you’ll probably only wear once, maybe it’s enough to just wear what you already love.
One day, instead of hearing little feet running th One day, instead of hearing little feet running through the house all day, I’ll be leaving voicemails hoping they call me back when they have time.

The sticky fingerprints will wash away, the car seats will come out, bedtime routines will end, and the house that once felt so loud will get quieter little by little.

It’s strange how the things that exhaust you in the moment become the very things you ache for later. 🤍
