So Your Friend Has a Blog…

7.17.2015

How To Support Your Friend's Blog You might be wondering, “What does this mean to me?” Well friends, it means you fall into one of two categories.

Category One: It could mean nothing. It could mean you occasionally read one of the blog posts, or you might remember to visit the site once a month. After all, your life is pretty hectic, getting some free time is hard, amiright?

Or it could mean something different.

Category Two: It could mean that you want to support them, but you’re just not sure how to do that exactly. If you fall into this category, you came to the right place. Today I’m giving out free lessons in “How to be Supportive to Your Blogging Friend.” You can thank me later. Remember that your friend blogs for a purpose. Keeping an active blog running is not easy, so any pat on the back you can give them is well worth it.

I started my blog over a year ago, and I still have friends that don’t even know I blog. That, or they don’t read it. Ever. I mean, they literally have never even clicked on the site. Which is A-Okay with me, because after all, they probably wouldn’t even like it. Or they can’t read. One of the two.

For those other friends, the ones that ask me all the time about my blog, this is for them. And for all of you out there who have blogging friends that you want to support, or show a little love to.

So without further ado…

How You Can Support Your Friend’s Blog

1. Sign up to receive email notifications when your friend posts. Even if you start marking these messages as spam, even then, sign up. Gaining a large group of followers is most likely extremely important to your friend, and each sign-up helps. You will only get an email when they post, so what is a few emails a week (or less) going to do to you? Don’t worry, your inbox will not over-flow. Plus, this will help you with Step 2.

2. Visit the site. Often. Like every day. And if you don’t have that much time, then visit every time you see an email. All blogs track the traffic, and your simple “hit” will be counted. Even if you just open the site, to close it right back down, that hit is counted. Your friend will appreciate the traffic. Do NOT just read the email notification. This will not count as traffic on your friend’s blog. Just click on the email and let it direct you to the site, where you can read the post in its entirety.

3. Read the posts. Or try to. It will help you with Step 4.

4. Comment, Like, or Share. Seriously, just comment. It will take one minute out of your day (you can’t be that busy!). If your friend has posted something “Pinnable,” then pin it (Pinterest here folks). If it’s something “shareable,” then share it. Facebook, Twitter, anything. But if the topic is not really “your thing,” than fall back on the comment. Don’t worry, the whole social media world will not be notified that you commented on someone’s blog. If you’re worried that adding your email address to the comment will spam your inbox, don’t be. You won’t be spammed.

5. If your friend has an Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, or Pinterest page for their blog, follow them. All of them. And if you need to “hide” them on your Facebook feed (because your life is just too busy for that too), then do it. The “Like” alone will make them happy.

6. When said friend posts on said social media accounts: Like, Like, Like! And comment! Again, a few minutes in your day, and they will really appreciate it.

7. If you’re feeling REALLY frisky, share their blog on any social media platform. Or tell your friends. Or your co-workers. Or your dog. Any followers that your friend gains from you will be appreciated, and they will know how proud of them you are.

If all of these suggestions are out of your comfort zone, then I’m afraid you fall into the Category 1. Sorry, friend. It’ll be okay, just don’t expect any cupcakes from your blogging friend on your birthday. She’s busy.A Friend that Supports You is the Best Kind of Friend

Hahaha thank you! I just have so many of my “regular world” friends that ask about my blog, but don’t really know how to support it. I thought I’d lay it all out on the line! Haha! I hope you’re doing well! 🙂

This is amazing, Shauna, I wish I could give it some people I know.
People are busy, I get that, but if you don’t have time to support a friend or family member, even by reading their blog, well, that says more about you than them.
I will now share this. 😉

I love this post, blogging is as much about supporting each other as it is about maintaining your own blog, I always make time to do the blogging rounds! Funnily enough, I’ve never shared my blog with “real world” friends, the only people that know I have a blog are my parents, my Mum is probably my biggest reader (haha)!

It seems quite relevant to also share that I’ve nominated you for the Infinity Dreams Award: https://adeleinglasses.wordpress.com/2015/07/20/infinity-dreams-award

If you don’t wish to take part, that’s absolutely fine, I thought that you deserved the recognition anyway! 🙂

Wow thank you so much!!! That is so kind of you! I will visit your page and check it out. I don’t always get around to doing them, but I really really really appreciate you nominating me, it means a LOT!

And you should consider sharing your blog with your friends. It’s really great, and your close friends would probably love to get a little insight into this part of your life! I try to express to my real friends how much blogging has become a part of my life, and they probably wouldn’t understand without reading it! 🙂

Most of my friends do that. Personally I think it’s okay if they don’t read my blog. It isn’t for everyone and I don’t force them to. I think they compensate for not reading by listening to my ideas or giving me advice on what they think. That is more important to me than anything. These are some amazing tips because some people really have no clue how they’re supposed to help.

Thank you!!! I agree though, I don’t mind when friends don’t read it, because I know it’s not for everyone. But I do have a lot of friends who ask how they can “help,” and so I thought I’d put together a list for them!! Haha! 🙂

Somewhere along the way we forget to find the joy Somewhere along the way we forget to find the joy in all the little things. The little joys in twirling in a flower field. Stopping to smell the flowers.

If we want our children to enjoy all of the little joys, we need to make sure we are doing it too. What little joy did you enjoy today?
Growing up, I dreamed of living by the beach and p Growing up, I dreamed of living by the beach and palm trees. It was magical to me. I never felt like my soul belonged in a landlocked state. A cold state. Were there beautiful things about it? Of course. Summer in Wisconsin will always have my heart. But living by the ocean will always be where my soul feels at home.

Over twenty years ago I got in a car and drove across the country to San Diego with a few friends. I’ve now lived here longer than I lived in Wisconsin. And even though I’ll always “be” from Wisconsin, my girls will always be from San Diego. And that’s a crazy concept to me. Raising the girls at the beach was something out of my dreams. So now I can teach them firsthand that we CAN make our dreams come true!
I remember when my oldest was little and someone t I remember when my oldest was little and someone told me that she NEEDED to go to preschool or she’d never catch up. I feel the same way today that I felt then, six years ago. My daughters never NEEDED preschool. Is it a good option for some parents (or the only option for others)? Yes. Is it BAD? No. But kids don’t NEED it. They need outdoor spaces, they need playgrounds and parks and beaches. They need free play with neighbors and friends and family. And yes, if none of those are options, of course preschool is not a bad idea, but can we stop pretending kids that don’t go are going to be irreparably harmed?
There’s just something about that second child. Th There’s just something about that second child. They pick up everything so quickly. They’re unstoppable. They want to do everything and they want to do it now.

Second child life.
The day my husband looked at me and said, “I’m so The day my husband looked at me and said, “I’m so glad we have daughters,” I just about melted. Because like most men, he always envisioned a son. Someone he could pass his useless sports knowledge to, someone he could play mediocre golf with. Maybe someone to watch the hockey playoffs with (that doesn’t complain like I do).

When we found out our second girl was coming, he famously said he watched the pink smoke hoping it would turn to purple and then blue. The first thing out of his mouth after he really digested it was, “now I have to pay for two weddings.”

And then one day, not long after the second came along, he realized why he’s a a girl dad. Because he couldn’t be more perfect for them. And they are exactly what he needed.
After seeing the beauty of this world, I just don’ After seeing the beauty of this world, I just don’t see how there’s any other option. God’s beauty is in everything, and sometimes I feel sad that I’ll never be able to see it all.
My husband and I never thought we’d be the homesch My husband and I never thought we’d be the homeschooling family, but here we are. What started as a few things here and there that we didn’t like, exploded into not liking much of anything in a traditional school, and liking just about everything about homeschooling.

So now, here we are, on a random weekday, exploring our city. Picking up shells and learning about science. Meeting new people and gaining new friends. There’s so much more than doing lessons at home (although those happen too, don’t worry). There’s a whole big word out there to explore.
I have this theory. I think that as women, even wh I have this theory. I think that as women, even when we are done, we never really feel “done.” I think it’s innate. It’s biological. We were designed to procreate. We were designed to mother. When all of that is over, REALLY OVER, it’s a sad moment. It’s hard to accept. It’s hard to move on.

If you had asked me years ago if I would feel like this, I would have told you, “absolutely not. I’m done.” But when a woman gets to a “certain age,” it feels hard to accept.

How do you feel?
The secret is out… I don’t spend more money than The secret is out…

I don’t spend more money than most. A party at a trampoline park is about double (if not more) expensive than this. A party at a park with a jumper? More expensive. It’s not about the money, it’s about the prep.

I spend months in advance planning for my parties. As soon as my girls decide on a theme, I take off (and we don’t do theme switches once anything has been purchased). My biggest money saving tip is to try to get the theme MONTHS in advance. I’m literally planning my daughter’s October birthday party already!

So for those of you wondering, you absolutely CAN do fun parties on a budget. You just need a little more effort, and a little more time. 💕
