Easter Bunny Beers

3.24.2016

DIY Easter Bunny Beer

Listen. I’m as excited for Easter as the kid next door. I can’t wait to hunt for eggs, eat lots of chocolate, and run around the yard on a sugar high. However, I’d like to do all of the above while also enjoying an adult beverage. Can you blame me? I’m sure those of you with your own little angels can relate. You can have at least one right?

My family likes to hold an annual egg hunt for the kiddos. When all the eggs have been found, they promptly start the annual beer hunt. Each adult brings a six pack of beer, and they’re all hidden in the yard. Finders keepers. If this doesn’t sound like the best hunt ever, you are no fun. It probably helps that Easter in Wisconsin can bring chilly temperatures, so your beers are ice cold upon opening. Take this weekend for example: I believe the area was just hit with an average of 4-6 inches of snow. Seriously.

DIY Easter Bunny Beers

I’m not as much of a beer drinker as I once was…I think all of the cheap beer in college ruined it for me. But when it comes time to participate in a beer can hunt, I would jump on board. Especially if the beers were all made into cute little bunnies like mine. It’s possible that’s setting the bar too high, but what’s a holiday without a little added holiday spirit?

DIY Easter Bunny Beers and Sodas

I saw someone make a bunny out of a brown paper bag and my mind went immediately to the liquor store. I mean, brown paper bags….beer cans…I’m not the only one that put two and two together, right? Here’s a good tutorial on how to cut your bag into bunny ears. Fill the bag with a beer (or a soda for those of you good respectable citizens out there), and use a glue gun to glue on a cottontail. You may have to fold a little of the bag around the can, and the glue gun can secure it for you. Don’t bother trying to make one with a 40oz beer. It doesn’t work so well. Trust me.

I’m hoping to find these hidden all over my yard this weekend. If you feel like making one for me, make sure you don’t hide it too hard. It’s supposed to be 70 degrees and ain’t no one got time for hot beer.

You can print the cute little tag here. Even if you want to use it for something different (blasphemy!).

DIY Dollar Store Easter Vase

3.23.2016

Dollar Store Easter Vase

It’s officially Spring now, even over there on the East coast where you’re still experiencing snow and colder than cold temperatures. I love the idea that Spring brings warm weather and lots of sunshine, but growing up in Wisconsin, I know better than to trust that damn groundhog. I remember having snow in May, which I suppose wouldn’t be the end of the world if we hadn’t gone trick-or-treating the Autumn before in full snowsuits. I definitely couldn’t handle seven months of snow/cold weather, so I got my butt outta there. Now I’m freezing when the temperature hits 40 at night! I mean, come on, that’s quite chilly.

DIY Dollar Store Easter Vase

In honor of Spring, and the best Spring holiday (Easter…for those of you that couldn’t figure that out), I went out in full-decorating mode last week. Our house looks like an Easter bunny threw up Easter eggs all over the place. St. Patrick’s Day was officially taken down and put away the day after, and up went all of our bunny and egg decorations. I only had ten days to display my Easter decorations, and (Damn It!) I was going to take full advantage of each one. I put up bunny’s and eggs, Easter prints and garlands, photos and candles. And I was done. I sat back to enjoy my handiwork, and then I saw it. I was missing something in one area. It had to be fixed immediately.

I went in search of some new decorations at my favorite store, Dollar Tree (whoop whoop!). I bought a yellow/clear vase, a pack of faux flowers, and a pack of “Egg Picks.” I already had burlap ribbon (also from DT), and a can of this pretty spray paint (leftover from last year’s Easter crafts). I sprayed the vase, glued on the ribbon, and stuffed the rest inside. It turned out rather cute if I do say so myself. Which I do. So it’s obviously quite cute.

I’m always seeing how everyone else uses their Dollar Store products to make cute decorations, and I think I can finally join the club. I was pretty impressed, and definitely think this is one of those “easy-peasy” things that anyone else could do too. So tell me, does this seem as easy as it looks? What’s your favorite way to decorate for Easter?

Pots of Gold

3.15.2016

DIY Gold Pots for St. Patrick's Day TreatsWaiting for approaching holidays is almost as bad as waiting for an upcoming vacation. I am currently failing miserably at both. St. Patrick’s Day is in two days, I have no plans, and I will most likely sit at home drinking a green glass of wine while stuffing my face with green cookies. And that’s pending someone baking me some green cookies. Since I clearly cannot bake anything on my own. Dying the wine green is about as much effort as I can put into this party, especially after all the holiday treats I’ve been busy putting together. If you want to receive a St. Patrick’s Day treat from me, you’ll have to sign up to be my friend. I’ll start the list now. If you’re lucky enough you’ll get a coveted spot on the list. Ready, GO!

DIY Flower Pots for St. Patrick's Day TreatsWho am I kidding? I can’t even handle the three friends that I do have. I’m sorry but I’m going to have to close the list down. No more new friends for me. Besides, I spend too much time as it is making all of these little holiday treats. If I had to make any more my fingers would bleed. And since we have enough of that in our household (my husband chews his nails until they bleed), I think we can do without.

If you think you wanna take a stab at it (see what I did there?!), be my guest! I bought a three pack of ceramic flower pots at The Dollar Tree, spray painted them gold, and filled them with gold candy. I tied the tag onto a piece of candy so it would stay where I wanted it (kept sliding off the pot). Use a little “stuffing” if you’d like to add extra flair (I used gold Easter grass).

You can download the tag here, and print to whatever size you’d like.

So tell me, what are your big St. Patrick’s Day plans!?

St. Patrick’s Day Treats for Grown-Ups

3.09.2016

St Patrick's Day Treats for Adults - Cheers to the Gold at the End of the Rainbow! Rum & CokeI don’t know about my fellow Pinteret-ers, but sometimes it can be a little frustrating that most of the holiday treats are for kids. I mean, come on! We’re the ones making all these treats, why can’t some of them be for us? Chocolate is good for a while, but sometimes we just want a stiff drink, amiright? Especially after you just made all those chocolate treats for your kid to hand out.

There are plenty of cocktails associated with St. Patrick’s Day. I mean, make something green with a little food dye and apparently it’s now a St. Patrick’s Day cocktail. But try to find a party favor idea for an adult party. Or just a gift for your friends. Or your co-workers if they’re lucky. I suppose handing out alcohol at work may be frowned upon in some establishments.

St. Patrick's Day Gold - Find the Gold at the end of the Rainbow - Rum and CokeThis year I wasn’t going to wait for someone else to come up with the brilliant idea for me. I mean, pair any good alcoholic beverage with a printable St. Patrick’s Day tag and there you go: A St. Patrick’s Day treat. Complete with a mixer and everything. Who needs green food dye when you have rum?

St. Patrick's Day Treats - Wine for adults!

St. Patrick's Day Treats - Cheers to the Gold Wine Bottle Gift

I found green bottomed cocktail and wine glasses at the Dollar Tree, and my idea blossomed from there. Find any gold/yellow alcohol or wine and you’ve got a perfect party-sized favor. Just please provide full bottles at your party. What kind of party it is if there’s only one cocktail per person?

Cheers to the Gold at the End of the Rainbow - St. Patrick's Day Treats for adults!

Download the St. Patrick’s Day tag here. You can print to whichever size you’d prefer!

Not so they grow up thinking one place is “better” than another — but so they grow up curious, grateful, and grounded. And the more of the world we see, the more thankful I become for home, for the freedoms we have, and for the life we get to build together.

Social media makes it feel like every trip requires new outfits, a new summer closet, a new date-night dress…but honestly? It doesn’t.

I’m willing to bet you already have plenty of great options hanging in your closet. And instead of spending a bunch of money on clothes you’ll probably only wear once, maybe it’s enough to just wear what you already love.

The sticky fingerprints will wash away, the car seats will come out, bedtime routines will end, and the house that once felt so loud will get quieter little by little.

What’s that saying? It’s the thought that counts.

It’s about my friends who help me be a better mother, even if they don’t have little kids themselves. It’s about my own mother, who is the biggest inspiration for me, to be a better mother myself. It’s about the many generations before me that allowed me to be a mother at all. It’s about every woman in my life that loves me and my girls as if they’re their own. That’s who I’ll be celebrating this Mother’s Day.
