A Glass of Wine & A Little Sunshine

9.09.2015

A Gift of Wine and SunshineAs previously mentioned, I am NOT looking forward to fall. I would forgo the PSL’s, the colored leaves, and the football for just a few more weeks of summer. Remember just a few short months ago when everyone was on Facebook complaining about the winter-never-ending, and begging for shorts weather? Now those same people are online begging for Fall, claiming they cannot wait to get their hands on everything and anything pumpkin. I am quite settled exactly where I am, thank you very much. Don’t rush me. I don’t want to wear boots with leg warmers, I’ll stick to my bikini. Good thing I live in California, we still have weeks of good weather left! (knock on wood)

Because I love sunshine so much, I’m apparently the queen of sunshine gifts. I seem to be making one of these every month, as you can see here. However, this time I wanted to change it up a little bit. I typically do a ‘Box of Sunshine,’ that is mailed to a friend or family member that needs a little brightening up. But last week, our neighbor was going through a tough time. Now, I’m not denying how great the boxes are, but what’s even better?

A Glass of Wine & A Little Sunshine

Wine. Wine and cookies. Duh. Wine and cookies make everything better. The only thing missing is a cheeseburger. But that’s definitely just me.

So I designed a new little tag for the wine bottle, tied up some cookies (with this little tag), and voila. A much more appropriate sunshine gift for your friends. This way, they can drink their troubles away. I can’t possibly be the only person that does that right?A Glass of Wine & A Little Sunshine

Since I live in the freezing state of Wisconsin, (It will be snowing in less than 2 months) I expect one of these sunshine gifts at my door no later than November 1st. Thanks! 🙂

Regarding the end of summer…I am so ready lol. I’m trying to remember if I ever said I was excited for summer to begin?? I can’t imagine I did because I hate the heat! I probably did though. Don’t laugh at me:)

Oh and I love cheeseburgers, wine, and cookies too. And ice cream. ?

I’ll take the cookies, you could take the wine and did I hear something about a burger? Yes, please!

It’s so weird because this is the first year that I’m not ready for Fall. I’m ready for the humidity and the bugs (oh man, THE BUGS) to leave but I’m dreading the winter. Hopefully the Farmer’s Almanac is wrong and it’s not too bad (snowy)!

as much as i love Autumn, i’m with you — i’d make summer last as long as possible if it were up to me. wine & sunshine is one of the best pairings a gal can think of. 🙂

Ha! I just wrote about my disdain for pumpkin things in my blog yesterday; mostly about how everyone is trying to hit the fast forward button and catapult themselves into Fall. Um? It’s 90 degrees out in New York; CHILL. I’m with you – the sooner Fall comes, that means winter is right behind it. And winter’s here (unlike Cali) are bruuuuuutal. So, I’m with you 🙂

A core memory I didn’t know I’d be making… This w A core memory I didn’t know I’d be making…

This weekend at church, my daughter got to light the candles for the first time. At the end of the service, when she went up on her own to extinguish them, proud tears dropped from my eyes. And as I looked around at others, I noticed I wasn’t the only one.

If you had asked me in my early to mid twenties, I wouldn’t have imagined how much this community, this faith, and these little traditions would come to mean to our family. There was a season of my life, long before I became a mom, where I drifted away from actively going to church. Now, getting to watch my girls grow up surrounded by faith, love, and a church family who knows them and celebrates them feels like such a gift.
Hot take: We’ve convinced ourselves kids need bigg Hot take: We’ve convinced ourselves kids need bigger backyards, when what they really need is neighborhood kids.

I used to think about more square footage, more land, more privacy. Now? I’d rather my girls have friends they can run to than an acre they have to play on alone.

A bigger house isn’t always a better childhood. For us, built-in community has been worth more than an extra bedroom ever could be.

I know this won’t be everyone’s opinion, but I think for elementary-aged kids, having friends next door is more valuable than having a huge yard. Anyone else change their mind about what “dream home” actually means?

I’ll die on this hill: kids birthday parties SHOUL I’ll die on this hill: kids birthday parties SHOULD feel magical.

Before anyone comes at me, I’m not talking about spending thousands of dollars. I’m talking about picking a theme, hanging the decorations, baking the cake (or buying it and decorating at home), planning the games, and making your kid feel like the most important person in the world for one day.

That’s the stuff they’ll remember.

You don’t need a huge budget to make childhood feel special. Agree or disagree?
Even with the bathroom trips. 🤣 Listen. Social me Even with the bathroom trips. 🤣

Listen. Social media tends to make traveling with children look glamorous, and the truth is, it usually isn’t. Are some kids professional travelers? Of course. But reality is that there’s always pitfalls and unexpected turbulence that you just have to mentally prepare for before you travel. And in the end? I promise you, it’s worth all the hassle.

Why yes, I do. 🤣🤣🤣

One of my favorite things we get to give our girls One of my favorite things we get to give our girls is perspective. To see new places. To meet different people. To experience cultures outside of their own.

Not so they grow up thinking one place is “better” than another — but so they grow up curious, grateful, and grounded. And the more of the world we see, the more thankful I become for home, for the freedoms we have, and for the life we get to build together.

I might be the world’s worst “influencer,” because I might be the world’s worst “influencer,” because I’m here to tell you this: you do not need a whole new wardrobe for vacation.

Social media makes it feel like every trip requires new outfits, a new summer closet, a new date-night dress…but honestly? It doesn’t.

I’m willing to bet you already have plenty of great options hanging in your closet. And instead of spending a bunch of money on clothes you’ll probably only wear once, maybe it’s enough to just wear what you already love.
One day, instead of hearing little feet running th One day, instead of hearing little feet running through the house all day, I’ll be leaving voicemails hoping they call me back when they have time.

The sticky fingerprints will wash away, the car seats will come out, bedtime routines will end, and the house that once felt so loud will get quieter little by little.

It’s strange how the things that exhaust you in the moment become the very things you ache for later. 🤍
