Easy DIY Pallet Box

6.04.2015

DIY Box from Pallet // Pallet Box // Before Paint(Before)

Great news people! I bought my very first saw last weekend. Yes, a saw. And yes, I am that happy about it. My saw is nothing special, just the cheapest thing that Wal-Mart had. Cheap is good.

On the drive home, with my new gleaming purchase riding shotgun next to me, I realized I need to break her in. So I stopped at the dumpster, picked up a pallet, and attempted to squeeze it into my backseat. Let’s just say that my backseat is missing a little “junk in the trunk.” It could be bigger. Or the pallet could have been smaller. Either way, I injured Zoe (my car) a little. Don’t worry, we went for ice cream just so she would feel better.

I got home, struggled with getting the pallet back out of the car, and showed my husband my new purchase! The fact that he wasn’t as excited about my new saw as I was, was not going to ruin my day. I went to work.

DIY Box from Pallet // Pallet Box Painted WhiteI christened my saw on the pallet slats (after I broke a bottle of champagne over them of course), cutting them off one by one. I cut them in half, and made 10 smaller pieces. My box didn’t need a bottom or sides (my box is like a show pony box, she just needs to look good from the front), so I nailed three pieces together with two support pieces. I made three of these, then nailed them all together for a three sided box. I also used two smaller pieces to support the bottom, so it didn’t wiggle. There was no room for wiggle. See what I did there?!

After my box was all put together, I sprayed it lightly with a little white spray paint. Gave it an overall glow. After all, it is a piece of art.

(Side note: Yes, I know my box is misshapen and some may see it as “ugly.” All I see is beauty.) 😉

It came out great! It is certainly worthy of a bottle of champagne. I hope that you drank it first. 😀

I started out with a Wal-Mart hand saw too…mostly because I was afraid that I would lose fingers with a power saw. Then I got a miter saw for Christmas and I haven’t looked back (or lost any body parts.) Buy one, you’ll love it and all the projects you can do!

A core memory I didn’t know I’d be making… This w A core memory I didn’t know I’d be making…

This weekend at church, my daughter got to light the candles for the first time. At the end of the service, when she went up on her own to extinguish them, proud tears dropped from my eyes. And as I looked around at others, I noticed I wasn’t the only one.

If you had asked me in my early to mid twenties, I wouldn’t have imagined how much this community, this faith, and these little traditions would come to mean to our family. There was a season of my life, long before I became a mom, where I drifted away from actively going to church. Now, getting to watch my girls grow up surrounded by faith, love, and a church family who knows them and celebrates them feels like such a gift.
Hot take: We’ve convinced ourselves kids need bigg Hot take: We’ve convinced ourselves kids need bigger backyards, when what they really need is neighborhood kids.

I used to think about more square footage, more land, more privacy. Now? I’d rather my girls have friends they can run to than an acre they have to play on alone.

A bigger house isn’t always a better childhood. For us, built-in community has been worth more than an extra bedroom ever could be.

I know this won’t be everyone’s opinion, but I think for elementary-aged kids, having friends next door is more valuable than having a huge yard. Anyone else change their mind about what “dream home” actually means?

I’ll die on this hill: kids birthday parties SHOUL I’ll die on this hill: kids birthday parties SHOULD feel magical.

Before anyone comes at me, I’m not talking about spending thousands of dollars. I’m talking about picking a theme, hanging the decorations, baking the cake (or buying it and decorating at home), planning the games, and making your kid feel like the most important person in the world for one day.

That’s the stuff they’ll remember.

You don’t need a huge budget to make childhood feel special. Agree or disagree?
Even with the bathroom trips. 🤣 Listen. Social me Even with the bathroom trips. 🤣

Listen. Social media tends to make traveling with children look glamorous, and the truth is, it usually isn’t. Are some kids professional travelers? Of course. But reality is that there’s always pitfalls and unexpected turbulence that you just have to mentally prepare for before you travel. And in the end? I promise you, it’s worth all the hassle.

Why yes, I do. 🤣🤣🤣

One of my favorite things we get to give our girls One of my favorite things we get to give our girls is perspective. To see new places. To meet different people. To experience cultures outside of their own.

Not so they grow up thinking one place is “better” than another — but so they grow up curious, grateful, and grounded. And the more of the world we see, the more thankful I become for home, for the freedoms we have, and for the life we get to build together.

I might be the world’s worst “influencer,” because I might be the world’s worst “influencer,” because I’m here to tell you this: you do not need a whole new wardrobe for vacation.

Social media makes it feel like every trip requires new outfits, a new summer closet, a new date-night dress…but honestly? It doesn’t.

I’m willing to bet you already have plenty of great options hanging in your closet. And instead of spending a bunch of money on clothes you’ll probably only wear once, maybe it’s enough to just wear what you already love.
One day, instead of hearing little feet running th One day, instead of hearing little feet running through the house all day, I’ll be leaving voicemails hoping they call me back when they have time.

The sticky fingerprints will wash away, the car seats will come out, bedtime routines will end, and the house that once felt so loud will get quieter little by little.

It’s strange how the things that exhaust you in the moment become the very things you ache for later. 🤍
